10/100/1000BASE-T SFP is an electrical interface module packaged in SFP, with RJ45 Ethernet ports (rather than fiber optic interfaces) for transmitting data through ordinary Ethernet cables (Cat5e/Cat6). It is mainly used to “transfer” a usable electrical port (Ethernet port) on fiber optic switches, achieving short distance (within 100 meters) copper cable connections. Although the name includes “optical module”, the internal components are actually photoelectric conversion circuits used to replace standard1G copper SFP module.
