SFP-10G-ER is a long-distance optical transceiver module designed specifically for metropolitan area networks, campus backbone, and data center interconnect (DCI) in the 10 GE ecosystem. It usually adopts SFP+ packaging and can achieve stable transmission up to 40 km on a single single-mode fiber (SMF). It is a key “connecting” product between a 10 km LR module and an 80 km ZR module.10G SFP ER mainly uses a wavelength of 1550nm, with lower attenuation than 1310nm. Compared to 10GBASE-LR (10km, 1310nm), the ER module has a higher transmission optical power and is typically combined with an APD receiver to achieve a larger optical link budget, overcoming signal attenuation and dispersion over a distance of 40km.
