The 200G QSFP56 DR4 transceiver is an optical transceiver designed specifically for ultra short distance (500 meters) and high-density connections in data centers. It is usually considered a “streamlined version” of 200G FR4, focusing more on high performance and low-cost solutions within the data center. Widely used for direct connection of Leaf-Spine between cabinets, 1 to 4 breakout branch conversion, and upgrade to 400Gbps.

Application

  • Cabinet-to-cabinet direct connection (Leaf-Spine): In large data centers, when two switches are within 500 meters apart, DR4 offers a more stable single-mode transmission solution compared to multimode SR4;
  • Breakout (Branch Conversion): This is the core value of DR4. It supports 1:4 mode and connects a 200G port to 4 50G single-channel optical modules through one MPO-to-4-LC branch optical cable;
  • Transition to 400G: In some architectures, 400G DR4 ports can be interconnected with 200G DR4 modules through branch cables.
